Saturday 6/2/2016 - Dead River Bend to Clarke's Camp

1908km - 1843km

An early start as we again get up at first kookaburra. The koala is now active, moving around the tree and eating. We do the now normal routine of pack up tents, eat breakfast, load boats, and follow Sarg onto the water as he is usually there waiting. The koala is now sleeping again as we hit the water st 7:30.

A nice paddle today as we tour towards Tocumwal. Some strong winds hit as on north running parts of the river which are slowing us down a bit, but it keeps the temperature down. We hit Tocumwal at 10am and the boys are off to the bakery we spotted on the way down the river.  Some super healthy food and drink is consumed before we continue the journey toward the Barma forest.

The country is looking dry and the river is running lower and slower than I have experienced it on the Murray Marathons. I guess that is what happens toward the end of summer.  We now still have the higher banks but the flat sand beaches that now appear are amazing.

The day is hot so each hour we are stopping for a swim to cool down and this is working well.

Being the weekend the camper population and speedboat activity has increased and we get to speak with lots of people on our way, it is great to see so many friendly people and helps the day to pass.

We stop at another magic camp spot next to the river and go through the ritual of camp setup, swimming, washing the paddling clothes, cooking dinner and writing our diaries. A hard life.

A few of the boys are starting to get a bit sore so it will be good to have three easier days before our rest day in Echuca.

Tinky just caught his first real fish, well he caught it until it got away. It was only a carp anyway.
